What Is Olaplex?

A multi-step treatment that helps our hair stay healthier, shinier and stronger! The main patented active ingredient is called Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate, a bond multiplier which begins the process of repairing the millions of disulfide bonds in our hair that are essential to its strength and elasticity. It is the breaking of the disulfide bonds that results in damage and hair loss. OLAPLEX is able to repair this damage from the inside out by restoring and reinforcing these bonds with their patented ingredient.

The types of hair damage.

  • Chemical Damage: Caused by keratin treatments, coloring, bleaching, perming and relaxing.
  • Thermal Damage: Caused by blow dryers, flat irons and curling irons.
  • Mechanical Damage: Caused by brushing or combing.

How to use Olaplex?

There are two methods to get the best olaplex treatment achieved.

At the salon - Your stylist can protect the hair from any sort of damage caused by a chemical service (especially a balayage) in just 3 easy steps.

  • Starting with Olaplex No.1 Bond Multiplier (Professional Use Only) by mixing this product in your chemical service before it is applied to the hair.
  • Then, after your hair has been rinsed clean and before the shampoo, Olaplex No.2 Bond Perfector (Professional Use Only), is put all over for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • This is followed by using the Olaplex No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and the No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner.

At home by you - You will be able to maintain your salon treatment until the next visit with the take-home accompanying Olaplex hair care products.

  • Start by applying a generous amount of Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector to damp hair and comb through evenly. Leave it on for 10 minutes or longer before rinsing out the treatment. You can also cover with a plastic shower cap which keeps the heat in from the scalp if you have some time to spare, but it is not necessary.
  • The next step is to wash the with Olaplex No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo followed by Olaplex No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner.
  • Finally you can finish off your hairstyle with any of the other Olaplex products to style and protect from any further damage.

Even if you are not doing any chemical service, it is a product that has been shown to be very effective in conditioning and repairing hair. This makes it an ideal option for people who want to keep their locks in good condition.

How to keep curly hair healthy

Olaplex will be beneficial! Over the years of coloring, using flat irons, blow dryers, and even diffusing your hair will cause damage, leaving curls dry, frizzy and damaged. Using Olaplex can start to undo the damage, making your curls look significantly healthier, and shinier, giving you stronger and frizz free curls.

Is Olaplex good for fine thin hair?

Yes! If you have thin and fine hair, Olaplex won't weigh it down. It will provide strength by repairing any broken disulfide bonds. This in turn will make it feel fuller and thicker.

Olaplex will not help chronic hair loss. The treatment is meant to help with damage only.

How often should you Olaplex

You can use as often as you like. Olaplex shampoo and conditioner are safely formulated for daily use. The same goes for the rest of their products which all are clean and non-toxic. They are free of Sulfates (SLS & SLES), Parabens, Phthalates, Phosphates.

Can you use it on hair extensions

Olaplex is safe to use on 100% human hair extensions. It might not work on extensions with a Keratin coating because the keratin acts as a barrier, preventing other products penetrating into the hair strands. It is recommended though, that you avoid using No.3 on the glue or tape of the extensions which can possibly loosen them.

How long does it take to see the results

You will see immediate results from the first at-home treatment application and with continued use over the weeks and months, your hair will keep improving in strength and health. But, results will vary and it will also depend on your regimen.

Are you washing it and styling with heat too frequently? If so, try reducing this to every other day. Don’t forget that getting regular trims, every two months also helps those ends!

If you spend a lot of time outside then protecting it from the sun is also crucial! So, remember to use a UV protection spray.

By just changing your routine and having Olaplex in your arsenal, your are well on your way to having a beautiful healthy mane again!
